23 Weeks! Decorating the Nursery!

Our little one is still growing big! He's about 12 inches long and a pound or more. I have a feeling from the ultrasound pictures he will have long legs like his daddy! He wasn't as active this past week as he has been but he is getting limited on his space. It's funny how my little one is already making a liar out of me! I tell you he's very active and kicking like crazy, then everyone comes around and he's a sleepy boy and a gentle thumper! I see how it's gonna be!

Saturday I worked with Mom, Dad, Mackie and Brad at WingsNWheels at Craig where we had a booth. It was a pretty successful day, a lot more people showed up than we expected! Although it was a hot one, it was a beautiful day with no rain.

Sunday was another working day. Mom, Dad, Mackie, Mrs. Kathy, Frenchy, Aunt Kathy, Greg and I worked on the nursery and furniture. Mom and Dad painted the nursery walls half blue, the other half will be bead board wall paper which Mackie and I measured for on Friday afternoon and ordered from Bed, Bath and Beyond (yes, they sell wall paper actually). Hopefully they have the wall paper in their stores and it will be sent shortly, otherwise I'll have to order it from somewhere else and lose 2 weeks time!

Mrs. Kathy, Aunt Kathy, Mackie, Mom, Greg and I worked on sanding and staining the furniture. After we figured out a few things and learned that the sponge brushes are way faster and use less stain (about half way through the staining process) it went pretty fast and we managed to get 2 coats on the book shelves, shelves and dresser drawers before running out of stain and energy. So far it looks really great! I have to pick up another can of stain which Greg and I will use to finish the crib and dresser this week. Then it's a coat of clear and we're done with the furniture staining! Hallelujah! That was not a project we were looking forward to but it turned out to be not so bad. Frenchy and Dad worked on finishing the drywall in the laundry room...it's almost done! Greg and I still have to finish up the trim (a fresh coat of glossy white paint), paint the doors and demolish and install the closet organizer in the nursery. Then it's on to the more fun projects, like hanging curtains, crafting some block letters that spell out his name and putting up the quote I had made ("Let your dreams set sail").
Once the crib is finished, completely dry and reassembled we will go get the mattress (kind of an important piece) and then before we know it the baby shower will be here and we will compile a list of the things we still need to complete the nursery. I am looking forward to it being done. With my growing "gut" as Greg called it jokingly the other day, it's getting harder for me to do things and with the 3rd trimester and all it's exhaustion coming up fast. I want to get as much done as I can before I don't have the energy or ability to do it anymore.

We are also contemplating getting a new car, well, a van to be more specific. After driving my car and Greg's car for a week with the car seat, I have discovered I have much more visibility in the Explorer and it feels a lot safer but it is much higher off the ground and a bit more difficult for me to get the car seat in and out...both cars have their pros and cons. We decided that I will drive the Explorer and Greg will drive the Rav4...but after looking around online at vans (and other SUV's in the beginning but we decided on a van) and our finances, we think it's doable. We are leaning towards the Chrysler Town and Country which has a good starting price (and therefore a good used price) and a ton of storage as compared to the other vans on the market. We are still going to look at a couple other models but this one seems to be at the top of our list. If you've had any experiences with the Chrysler, or any other van for that matter, let me know. The more information we get the better.

We have a midwife appointment this week with the glucose test on Wednesday...not looking forward to the test part but I am looking forward to hearing his fast little heartbeat again.

22 Weeks! Our Little Papaya!

Can you believe it? 5 months down! I'm so excited....and I just can't hide it! :)

Our little one is now the size of a papaya...about 11 inches and a whopping ONE pound!! He's growing like a weed! He's starting to sleep a little less and in cycle's for about 12 to 14 hours a day. And it's not hard to tell when he's awake! His kicks are getting more powerful everyday! I swear he's going to kick his way out! He is developing teeth under his gums, iris's in his eyes and NIPPLES! And even more exciting...he is developing his sense of touch by feeling his way around. Already a genius!

Over the weekend we went to the river and it was very relaxing...just us. At night I would lift my shirt off my tummy and Greg and I would watch the kicks...it's the neatest thing. I am starting to be able to feel his body from the outside. He'll shift and I feel pressure low in my tummy and I'll feel with my fingers and it will be very hard, then he'll shift again and it will go back to squish. It's the coolest thing. Except for when he is laying on one of my organs or my bladder, at which point I ask him politely to move as I travel to the restroom for another frequent pee break and, as a good son does, he moves a few minutes later. I'm in love with him already!

This week I am traveling in high style in the Explorer...it's much easier to see out of with the car seat which actually surprised me. I'm still a bit weary about driving in tighter places and parking and backing up but I'm sure that will get better with time. And I'm sure Greg is not the happiest camper about having to drive the Rav4 this week...sorry hunny!

I had a dream last night that Haiden was here and I was working in the back at the shop while someone was watching him up front. They brought him back to me (the cutest little thing ever I might add) wearing a pink jumper with hearts and flowers. I was quite confused in my dream as to why they would dress him in that but I was content just holding the little man. I can't wait until he is here.

Well, I think that's all for now. We have another appointment with the mid-wife next week...glucose test and all. Not looking forward to the latter. Can't wait to get started on the nursery this weekend! I'm ready to nest!

21 Weeks! Our Little Banana!

21 weeks...time is moving fast! Our little one is getting bigger by the day and at 10.5 inches and 12.7 ounces he is about the size of a banana! He's getting so big! He's still busy drinking the amniotic fluid and putting on the pounds (and my guess is so am I). Things have been going pretty well...my tummy is starting to itch a lot and the swelling is affecting more than just my fingers mid-day. I wore a cute pair of wedge shoes the other day and when I took them off when I got home I noticed my feet where slightly swollen...guess I won't be wearing those again for a while. I'm gonna have to find some comfy shoes because after a long day my feet hurt even after wearing flip flops!

Our little monkey treat is moving all around and throughout a lot of the day...it's so nice to feel him moving, it let's me know he's ok. The paranoid mother in me has already started...when I don't feel him for a bit I start to get worried. And all the reading I have done about the dangers of sleeping on your back (which just happens to be my favorite and most comfortable position) is waking me up a lot more at night...I'm always trying to make sure I'm not cutting off my little man's oxygen supply.

Greg and I have installed the car seat in my car to see how I like the fit and to test which car works better for me and the little banana...this week it's my car's turn...next week it's the Exploder. Which ever has more space and is easier for me to maneuver and function will be the pick. We shall see!

The dining room needs one more coat of paint (1 primer coat and 3 red coats later) then it will be completed...it's good at night but during the day there is still a slight bit of white showing through. Otherwise it's starting to look really good! We got the fans up in the living room and they look fanominal! The baseboards and "quarter round" (we actually used something a bit bigger than quarter round but I can't remember what it's called) are up and ready for caulking and touch up paint.

Speaking of work to be done around the house...we will be in town to help Dad at Wings and Wheels at Craig on September 25th...so I was thinking Sunday September 26th would be a great day to get started on painting Haiden's room and start the furniture staining process. So...if you'd like to help with either project let me know...we sure would appreciate it! Fall is approaching fast and it's making me nervous that there is still so much to be done in there. Depending on how much help we have and how much work we get done we may have to schedule an additional day but I'll let you know more about that later if it comes up. I am so excited to get things moving in the nursery...I can't wait for it to be finished and for our little one to enjoy it. (It's making me a bit teary eyed just to think about it actually! LOL) So if you'd like to help I would so appreciate it!! Just let me know!

20 Weeks! Our Little Cantaloupe!

Our little Haiden is now the size of a Cantaloupe! About 6.5 inches long and 10 ounces! He is practicing swallowing and digesting by swallowing amniotic fluid. And his taste buds are starting to work...so I guess that means I better start eating all the good-for-you things so he will have a taste for them when he is older.

We had a midwife appointment last week which went really well. Everything is where it is suppose to be and the sound of his heart beat always puts a smile on my face. She asked if he was moving and kicking but didn't need an answer from me because he kicked the Doppler monitor while we were listening to his heart (he's already my little trouble maker!). We talked about some natural face products I can use to help control my hormone charged breakout sessions (thanks for that Haiden) and she gave us some information on childbirth classes. The most exciting part of the whole visit was the weigh in...(who would've thought I'd say that!)...I've only gained 7.5 pounds and I'm already halfway through! Let's just hope this trend continues...I am weary about gaining a lot of weight, my appetite has already come back at full force and I seem to stay hungry these days. Maybe it will taper off?Hey, I can dream can't I?

The living room/kitchen remodel is about 95% complete. The finishing touches always take the longest (in my opinion anyway). The dining room and laundry room are still in the process...they are about 75% complete. The painting in the dining room needs to be finished, the chandelier hung, the trim needs to be bought and put up and the blinds put back up then we can move the furniture back in. The laundry room is amazing...it's a room now!! We still have to fix one section of drywall behind the NEW WATER HEATER!! Hot water...what a wonderful thought! And the new AC vent means no more sauna! We have to finish priming and painting in there then we will be done with the initial remodel phase. The old kitchen floors in the laundry room look great and most importantly they were free, so we saved a little money and the planet at the same time by recycling...makes ya feel a little tingly inside don't it? :)

Things still to do:
Well, that list could go on for days! We still have to get cabinets for the laundry room, curtains for the living and dining rooms, a new bar, and possibly a new kitchen (our old one looks too country for our more contemporary living space), hook up the cable, get the electrician back out to fix a couple now powerless outlets, buy and hang ceiling fans in the living room....see I told you the list goes on and on. But the good news is we are back living in our house and we can do those things as the time and funds become available.

Next up: The master bathroom and the nursery...I'm pretty sure the list of things to do will never be complete, even if we lived there 100 years. But that's ok...it's about the journey not the destination.

Thanks so much to all who helped, we couldn't have done it without you! And thanks to Tommy and Gloria for lending us the left side of their house and their patience with us and our entourage of pups...Greg wouldn't have been able to survive the dust (plus I probably would have killed him in those close quarters). We have the best friends and family!

Things are finally settling down, well, as much as they do for us...our calendars seem to fill so fast. We were thinking of doing a cocktail hour sometime this weekend so those who haven't seen the remodel and would like to can stop by...I'll let you know more about that closer to the weekend.

Here are the afters...hope you enjoy! There are still a lot of finishing touches to do and the dining room and laundry room still have to be completed...there will be more pics as the project progresses.
